Conference League Pairs Preview - 28/05/08

By Julie Martin - Weymouth Wildcats Speedway

Weymouth Speedway celebrates its 100th meeting since its revival in 2003 this Saturday! What better way to mark the occasion than by hosting the prestigious Conference League Best Pairs sponsored by Auto Marine of Poole.

The line up boasts the crème de la crème of the Conference League and promises to be possibly one of the most evenly contested encounters in the recent history of the competition. Wildcats Chairman, Phil Bartlett, is looking forward to the event which is one of the most significant in Weymouth Speedways history and is hoping for victory from the Radipole Lane based riders. He said “Weymouth have a great chance of taking the spoils with Jon Armstrong and Jay Herne but, there are some exciting riders in the line-up and anything can happen, and usually does, in these meetings.”

Last years winners – Boston will be hoping retain their title and with the pairing of Simon Lambert and Jamie Smith, who are both currently riding in the Premier League, they will be though to beat. Plymouth duo - Kyle Hughes and Paul Starke have had plenty of opportunity this season to get accustomed to the Weymouth track and will be eager to get one over on their local rivals and both have been riding extremely well this season.

Redcar field Aussie hot shot Aaron Summers who has been a revelation already this season, and Buxton’s Jack Roberts is a bit of a track specialist who last season came off 15 meters on two occasions to take the chequered flag when on a tactical substitute ride.

Sittingbourne’s Jerran Hart is another of speedways rising stars and Rye House field former Wildcat Terry Day who knows his way around the tight Wessex Stadium circuit as well as anyone. While Scunthorpe’s Byron Bekker and Scott Richardson will be equally keen to see their names engraved on the trophy.

The meeting starts at 7.15pm.
