Wildcats Ready To Announce 'Big Name'
- 16/02/08 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats are rumoured
to be ready to add another big name
to their star-studded squad for the
2008 Conference League campaign. This
week the Wessex Stadium outfit pulled
off a major coup by securing the services
of Jay Herne for another year and now
chairman Phil Bartlett is believed to
be preparing to announce another. The
Wildcats are being tipped for a fantastic
season already having also signed up
the Mighty Midget, Jon Armstrong, who
will only be one of two grade 11 riders
in the Conference this season. With
Karl Mason, Kyle Newman and Brendan
Johnson also on board the sky really
is the limit, particularly if Bartlett
secures his latest target.

Recovery Boost For Former Cat - 15/02/08 |
|
By
Paul Burbidge - Dorset Echo
Former Weymouth Wildcats' racer Chris
Johnson will not need another operation,
after doctors gave him the green light
to put weight on his shattered left
leg. Johnson suffered a broken kneecap,
severely broken thigh, broken pelvis
and severe blood loss in a major smash
at King's Lynn last October. And the
21-year-old travelled to Oxford's John
Radcliffe Hospital expecting to be told
he would need another operation to secure
the fibia graft, which is supporting
his thigh. But while specialists refused
to rule out future surgery, Johnson
was unexpectedly given the go-ahead
to step up his recovery. The Isle of
Wight man is now ready to take his recuperation
to the next level and rebuild the wasted
muscles in his leg.

Return Of The Herne - 11/02/08 |
|
By
Julie Martin - Weymouth Wildcats Speedway
The rivalry between the Weymouth Wildcats
and the Plymouth Devils guarantees every
clash between the two south coast teams
will be a passionate affair. Last season
the first two encounters saw the Devils
give the Wildcats a 60-34 point trouncing
in the Conference Trophy at the St Boniface
Arena. This was followed up by a slightly
more entertaining second leg at the
Wessex Stadium with a last heat decider
again going the way of the Devils who
ran out winners at 48-44.

face this year, when twenty-one-year-old
Karl Mason returns for a second season

season saw Karl take over the captaincy
from Wildcats stalwart David Mason and
prove to be a capable captain. Ever

Recuperating Ex-Cat Johnson Plans Racing
Return - 02/02/08 |
|
By
Paul Burbidge - Dorset Echo
Injured former Weymouth Wildcats star
Chris Johnson is planning a sensational
racing return, provided he regains full
mobility in his crocked left leg. The
21-year-old, endured a horror crash
at King's Lynn on October 12, which
left him with a shattered kneecap, badly
broken thigh, broken pelvis and considerable
blood loss. After almost two months
of operations and treatment, Johnson
was released from hospital in December
and has been recuperating at home. He
is "almost definitely" going to undergo
a bone graft operation to support his
thigh in the coming weeks. But despite
his nightmare, the Isle of Wight man
is getting his annual urge to take to
the track.
