Further Surgery For Ex-Cat Johnson - 27/10/07

By Dorset Echo

Former Weymouth Wildcats' racer Chris Johnson has been moved to Oxford for specialist treatment on his broken pelvis, which doctors claim is worse than first thought. The 20-year-old was rushed to King's Lynn Hospital after tumbling in heat 14 of the Isle of Wight's clash at the Norfolk Arena on October 12. Surgeons claim Johnson was lucky to escape with his life from the crash, which also left him with a shattered kneecap, badly broken thigh and considerable blood loss. Despite having had several operations, the ex-Wildcats' heat leader has undergone further surgery this week at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, who specialise in treating pelvic injuries.

Johnson Lucky To Be Alive - 18/10/07

By Dorset Echo

Former Weymouth Wildcats' star Chris Johnson is "very lucky to be alive", following an horrific crash at King's Lynn. The Isle of Wight rider was inadvertently collected by partner Glen Phillips, when he picked up huge drive on the final bend of heat 14. This sent Johnson through the wooden fence at high speed and he required medical attention on track for half an hour, before being transferred to hospital. Here he was taken into surgery and was treated for a badly broken thigh and kneecap, along with a broken pelvis. Johnson's condition has been described by the Islanders as "stable" and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Herne's KO Ends Cats' Cup Dreams - 01/10/07

By Adam Summers - Dorset Echo

AUSSIE ace Jay Herne crashed out of the meeting in heat three as the Weymouth Doonan Wildcats' hopes of claiming a piece of silverware this season were ended by the Plymouth Devils at the Wessex Stadium. A huge crowd watched on as the Poole Pirates loanee lifted coming out of the third turn on the first lap before making contact with the fence and crashing to the dirt near the start/finish line. Herne was diagnosed as having whiplash and concussion and his withdrawal brought a premature end to the Wildcats' hopes of a dramatic comeback from the 51-39 deficit from the previous night's first leg.
