Confident Cats Take On Devils - 31/08/07 |
|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats' chairman Phil
Bartlett believes that his side's sensational
victory over the Buxton Hitmen last
week has put them in good stead for
tonight's clash at the Plymouth Devils
(7.30pm). The Wildcats travel to the
St Boniface Arena for a meeting that
is a must-win contest for both teams.
With a place in the play-offs hanging
in the balance there's no room for error
and the Wildcats' narrow four-point
victory in the first leg leaves the
bonus point up for grabs.

Karl Targets Two Victories For Play-Offs
- 30/08/07 |
|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats' skipper Karl
Mason believes his side needs at least
two wins from their three remaining
Conference League meetings to secure
a place in the end of season play-offs.
The Wildcats sit second in the table
with 21 points, but the teams around
them all have fixtures in hand. Mason
though is confident they can get what
is required. He said: "We need to get
two wins to give ourselves a chance
of finishing in the top four. Anything
less and we will struggle to make the
play-offs. We slipped up against Stoke
recently but the Buxton result has given
us a lot of confidence."

Weymouth
Wildcats Press Release by Julie Martin
The Doonans Wildcats sensational victory
over the Buxton Hitmen last week, has
put them in good stead for this Fridays
clash with south coast rivals – the
Plymouth Devils. The Wildcats travel
to the St Boniface Arena for a meeting
that is a must win contest for both
teams. With a place in the play-offs
hanging in the balance there’s no room
for error and the Wildcats narrow four
point victory in the first leg, leaves
the bonus point up for grabs but vulnerable.
Phil Bartlett, Wildcats Chairman is
confident of an away win in this highly
charged local derby: “The Devils have
lost their last two meetings and, after
our awesome performance last week, confidence
runs high in the Wildcats camp. We have
a strong team to take to Plymouth and
I am confident we can turn them over
on their own shale.”

Wildcats Are Back On Track - 25/08/07 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats manager Phil
Bartlett was full of admiration for
his riders after they produced a scintillating
display to get their Conference League
play-off hopes back on track at the
Wessex Stadium last night. Before tapes
up there was a debate concerning Buxton's
hopes of using the rider replacement
facility for new-signing Jon Armstrong,
who was absent from the meeting. As
he had not ridden for the Hitmen yet
the Wildcats contested the move but
referee Chris Durno's decision to not
allow the visitors to use the facility
was over-ruled by BSPA chairman Peter
Toogood after a long consultation over
the phone.

Cats Need A Change Of Luck - 24/08/07 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Wildcats' chairman Phil Bartlett
is hoping that "Lady Luck" starts smiling
down on his side as the Conference League
approaches it climax. The Wessex Stadium
outfit has just four league encounters
remaining and need an upturn in fortunes
if they are to secure a place in the
play-offs. Bartlett's men are currently
second in the table but with the teams
just below them all having meetings
in-hand it is vital they put a good
run of form together.

Cats Shot Down - 23/08/07 |
|
By
Nigel Dean - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats' play-off hopes
suffered a setback last night after
defeat to the Stoke Spitfires in the
Conference League. The consolation though
was that the Wildcats did enough to
secure the bonus point at Loomer Road.
Away team manager Jem Dicken was left
disappointed after the night's racing.
He said: "We were unlucky yet again
and I am disappointed to have lost,
we at least salvaged the bonus point
so I guess everything's not lost.

20/08/07 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Wildcats David Mason and Sam
Hurst both had to withdraw from the
MOT Stop Carnival Trophy meeting at
the Wessex Stadium. Both riders aggravated
injuries in the early stages of the
event, which was won by the hosts ahead
of the Wimbledon Dons and the Poole
Pirates who both finished with 24 points.
The Dons were awarded second place due
to the fact they had more heat wins.

|
by
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats cruised to
Conference League victory in an eventful
meeting at the Wessex Stadium last night,
beating Sittingbourne Crusaders 62-27.
In the midst of delays for crashes,
re-run heats, and a power failure, rider
of the night Sam Hurst notched up 13
paid 17 points in a meeting where all
the Weymouth riders recorded good tallies,
except for the unfortunate Terry Day
who left the stadium in an ambulance.
Just when the Radipole Lane outfit thought
their injury jinx was behind them, Day
was excluded in heat two after he fell,
injuring his head and hip in the process.

Hotline For Phil - 08/08/07 |
|
by
Weymouth Wildcats Ltd
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats Chairman Phil
Bartlett has been a busy man of late.
Injuries have hit the Wildcats hard
in the last couple of weeks with Jay
Herne (wrist) David Mason (hand), Karl
Mason (hand) all picking up injuries.
Mark Thompson, who was recruited as
a replacement for the injured David,
has been suffering from migraines. Unfortunately
the regularity of the headaches has
been increasing and Mark has been scheduled
for a MRI scan this week.

Hurst Fit For Wildcats - 08/08/07 |
|
by
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats rider Sam Hurst
is set to make a dramatic return to
action this Friday when his side takes
on Sittingbourne in the Conference League
at the Wessex Stadium (7.15pm). The
18-year-old has declared himself fit
just three days after he was put through
the fence in his side's 55-35 defeat
at Buxton where he came away with a
broken bone in his hand and a dislocated
collarbone after a collision with former
Wildcat Lewis Dallaway. Despite the
speed of his number two rider's recovery,
chairman Phil Bartlett trusts Hurst's
words.

Shock'N Horror Of Speedway - 08/08/07 |
|
by
Weymouth Wildcats Ltd
One thing you can predict in speedway
is the unpredictable. After a weekend
of shock results, injuries and emergency
signings the chase for the Conference
League play-offs is well and truly on.
The Scunthorpe Scorpions currently occupy
the top spot and failing a catastrophic
disaster of apocalyptic proportions
look set to remain there. However, with
just three points separating the next
three teams, and just five points between
seventh place Rye House and second place
Weymouth, you would be a brave man or
woman to name the final top four placings
when the Conference League fixtures
have been completed.

Wounded Wildcats - 06/08/07 |
|
by
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats' injury problems
continue with both Karl Mason and Sam
Hurst suffering in Sunday's Conference
League defeat to the Buxton Hitmen yesterday.
With Mark Thompson unavailable for yesterday's
meeting due to illness and Jay Herne
and David Mason sidelined with broken
hands, things got even worse for the
Wildcats.

Day Is Back On Track For Cats - 04/08/07 |
|
by
Paul Burbidge - Dorset Echo
WEYMOUTH’S Terry Day believes he has
almost beaten his mechanical demons,
after bagging 10 paid 11 points against
a Newport Mavericks Select team last
night. His efforts were not enough to
save Wildcats from a 46-44 defeat in
what was a hotly- contested challenge
fixture at the Wessex Stadium. But having
struggled for power in recent weeks,
Day’s double-figure delight came as
a huge relief to Weymouth supporters.
With fellow reserve Jay Herne missing,
due to a broken hand, the 22-year- old
will have to shoulder even more point-scoring
responsibility over the coming weeks.

Cats Rocked After Herne Injury Blow
- 03/08/07 |
|
by
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats' star Jay Herne
could be ruled out of Sunday's Conference
League clash at Buxton. The Poole Pirates
loanee suffered a heavy fall in last
weekend's defeat at table-toppers Scunthorpe
and it is feared that he may have broken
a bone in his wrist. Herne will be rested
tonight when the Wildcats entertain
the Newport Mavericks in a challenge
match (7.15pm) and with David Mason
also sidelined and Lee Smart in action
with Birmingham on Sunday, Weymouth
chairman Phil Bartlett is understandably
concerned about his side's current predicament.

|
by
Weymouth Wildcats Ltd
It’s not only the return of the summer
weather that has had Wildcats Chairman
Phil Bartlett sweating this week, but
also trying to arrange this Fridays
challenge meeting! With six Conference
League teams in action and with Wildcats
hotshot Jay Herne nursing a wrist injury,
it has been a frantic few days. However,
after spending all week with a mobile
phone glued to his ear he has managed
to put together a meeting with a whole
host of exciting riders with some new
faces making their debuts. The meeting
will see the Wildcats take on the Mavericks
of Newport.

Piper Leaves Cats To Join Cheetahs -
02/08/07 |
|
by
Paul Burbidge - Dorset Echo
FORMER Weymouth Wildcats reserve George
Piper is determined to get his Conference
League career back on track, after joining
rivals Oxford Cheetahs. The Sturminster
Newton-based teenager's time at the
Wessex Stadium earlier this year was
plagued by bike trouble and poor form.
He also landed himself in hot water
and was fined £300, following a non-track
fight with Sittingbourne's Luke Goody
during the British Under-21 Championship
Qualifier at Weymouth on April 13. These
factors, combined with the recruitment
of super Aussie Jay Herne meant Piper's
days were numbered.
