Unbeaten at home this year the Wildcats
made it six in a row tonight by demolishing
the Cobras with a very impressive 62
– 31 victory that saw them record nine
5-1 maximum heat results. With solid
scoring all through the Wildcats ranks
things are certainly starting to look
good for the Cats at fortress Wessex.
The Cobras definitely missed the absent
Danny Betson and struggled to cover
the rider reserve rides. Facing an uphill
battle from the start as the hosts racked
up three consecutive 5-1s. Cobra Dan
Halsey hit the deck after lifting whilst
second in Heat three. Halsey returned
in heat five though donning the black
and white colours to win a superb battle
with Wildcats skipper Karl Mason. He
was rewarded with another win in his
third ride but was out-gated by Bargh
and then past by both Priest and Newman
before recovering to claim another second
in his following two rides. The only
other Cobra to really trouble the Wildcats
was an ex-Wildcat himself. Terry Day
made the best of his knowledge of the
tight Wessex circuit by being first
past the post in heat four after Herne
looped at the start, and followed that
up with another victory in heat six,
winning from the gate in both.
Squad member Andrew Bargh was in a Wildcats
race jacket for the first time tonight
taking the number one berth replacing
the injured Jon Armstrong. Bargh put
in a solid performance only dropping
one point to an opposing rider.
After a quiet start to his season ‘Rider
of the Night’ Luke Priest certainly
hit top gear winning the re-run of heat
three he then suffered a disappointing
last place but came back with avengance
to claim three straight wins including
a excellent pass on Dan Halsey overhauling
him down the back straight in heat twelve
followed up by some fantastic team riding
with Jay Herne in heat fifteen to lockout
the Cobras and bring the meeting to
a close just as it had started with
another three straight 5-1 heat maximums.
